Real Festival for kids

Everything that’s family-friendly and bucket loads of fun for kids at this year’s Real Festival.

We know that parents get a kick out of seeing their kids learn something new, and being genuinely surprised or laughing until they squeal. It’s feel-good moments like these that Real Festival delivers in spades. Feast your eyes on what’s in store for kids and families at this year’s event and start planning your family outing.

Jaw-dropping performance

For lots of giggles and plenty of smiles check out Chores, an action-packed show by slapstick comedy duo Hoopla, It’s jam-packed full of zany antics and side-splitting laughs as two brothers rush to get their room tidied before their Mum comes in. It’s a show that all kids (and parents) will relate to.

If it’s wide-eyed amazement you’re after, then you can’t miss Erth’s acclaimed Dinosaur Zoo where kids get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet awesome prehistoric creatures from cute baby dinos to some of the largest carnivores and herbivores that have ever walked the planet.

Non-stop entertainment

An impressive range of interactive and illuminated artworks along the riverbank guarantees surprises and fun at every corner. Some artworks are small like Light Reeds; luminous globes of light which transform the ground into a colourful canvas and some are big like Fido, the perfect combination of dogs and balloons and standing at seven-metres high you can’t miss it.

Following on the animal theme is the Nepean Wildlife LED Wall which brings local wildlife to the big screen for interactive and pixelated fun and there’s roving performers such as Elephantessence a couple of holographic pachyderms who will excite and delight kids as they walk along in a cascade of bubbles.

Unleash the energy

We all know kids love to burn off energy almost as much as they love to show off all the amazing things they can do. Luckily for parents, Real Festival is where kids can happily do both! First stop for energetic kids is the glow-in-the-dark ball pit. Let them loose, watch them roll around and be amazed as the balls illuminate with colour.

Adrenaline seekers will get a thrill out of the 10-metre high trapeze and circus activities. This exhilarating experience will have kids flying, gliding, twirling and swirling as they learn and have fun while challenging themselves and living out their flying dreams. There’s also plenty of on-water action for aquatic adventurers with kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding on the Nepean River.

Keep their hands busy

Kids can embrace their creative side in many colourful ways at Real Festival. They can make something in the Origami Garden, brush up on painting skills for the Real Festival Mural or pick a plant and join in a progressive art piece that celebrates Living.

Russ the story bus will be there enticing kids into his colourful and imaginative belly full of books. Inside there’s hundreds of stories to choose from and plenty of room to sit down, relax and read. Can’t choose what to read? A Bibliotherapist is on hand to help you find your perfect book.

Little green thumbs will love getting their hands dirty with Australia’s favourite gardener Costa Georgiadis in Enviro World. This precinct is where kids can have fun while learning how to live sustainably, and while kids are busy with gardening, waste sorting stations and progressive environmental artworks parents can enjoy a sustainable coffee in a cone at the rooftop shipping container cafe with views of the river.

Don’t forget to eat

With more than 20 of Sydney’s best food trucks serving up delicious cuisine at Real Festival there’s plenty of options to keep even the fussiest of eaters pleased. There’s Gourmet Gozleme (because who doesn’t like Gozleme), Urban Pasta and Hot off the Grill for staples including chicken nuggets, fries and burgers.

And after the main meal is done and dusted, there’s lots of sweet treats because we know dessert is everyone’s favourite meal of the day. Our top picks are Gelato Messina, Torch Me Creme Brulee (yes, that’s right street style creme brulee) or Stroopbros (for waffles with a difference).
